Building Corset Prototypes
The corset emerged as a Fashion trend in a particular moment in history…The creation of this trend is attributed to Catherine de Medici, the wife of Henri II of France in the sixteenth century. Its aim was to reduce the scout waists of the women at court.
The use of this tortuous garment for women has changed over the years, women being freed from the corset’s steel stays, amongst other things. Nowadays the corset is considered to be an important accessory, not only in lingerie, but also within other fields such as scenic costume or haute couture.
In this course, aimed at students with a good knowledge of pattern making and the clothing industry, the student will learn how to make the pattern and manufacture the different corset prototypes, including all the technical characteristics of this garment. A corset which has marked history will be transformed.
