Workshop on Print
This workshop will show the different techniques of artistic expression used in manual print and we will see the different techniques used: direct, silk screen, block printing and linoleum printing.
This course is for students in design plus all those who would like to start in the world of print. No prior knowledge required.
Objectives
- To learn the theory and practice the different methods of textile print for hand-made reproduction. Particular emphasis on silk screen, block and linoleum printing.
- To learn the formal and technical elements of textile design.
- To learn the use of different dyes.
Syllabus
Basic concepts in textile design. Elements and composition. Colour. Positioning or placing. The concept of Rapport. Registers.
The first print tecniques. The evolution of different techniques.
Techniques using templates. Stencils.
Linoleum printing: creating various moulds and designs.
Silk screen printing: creating a screen or a mould from an original.
Printing/absorption techniques. Block printing: reversible and irreversible.
Batik: creating a dual colour batik from cotton and pipette.
