Practical Introduction to Fashion Journalism

The Fashion Industry has its own rules. It is an Industry that creates thousands of Jobs and moves great amounts of money every year. Each part of this Industry requires professional qualified staff, and Fashion journalism is no exception

On this course, the current press mechanisms will be studied so that each student can receive the necessary training and fully understand what is required to create a collection, fashion communication and catwalk presentations which will aid to improve the quality of information provided in the press when writing fashion related articles.

The student will be able to write fashion news articles, for example catwalk presentation report, interviews, photo-shoot coordination, image selection for publishing and often, styling on photo shoots.

Objectives

  • Specific training for fashion professionals, who wish to enter or update their knowledge of this aspect of the industry.
  • Formalise and consolidate the most common articles and trends in fashion magazines.
  • Visualise the mechanisms used in the current fashion press.
  • Gain fluency when writing a fashion related article, using the correct style and language.
  • Interviewing techniques, personal writing styles and knowledge of fashion news aspects to be taken into consideration.

Introduction to fashion editing systems

Introduction a brief history of fashion journalism
Use of different media. Specialised magazines: Fashion magazines, for women, on trends, on television, in the daily press, on Internet ….
Different types of fashion journalism, examples and analysis: reports specialised critical articles, reports and interviews...
The role of a fashion editor

Fashion communication

Fashion and communication strategies
Brand and media relations
Ideal communication strategies for a brand
Fashion publicity
Fashion Editorial: visual language used in fashion.

Practical Module

Development of different projects to practice and achieve written fluency.
Real article to be written under the supervision of a fashion editor.
Development of an editorial project, entirely designed by the student with tutorial assistance from the teaching staff.
